I am the mom to two fantastic teenagers, Jace and Kade, and wife to a vivacious and devoted husband and father, Josh. We've been married for almost 19 years and live in Spokane, WA. We’re a crazy sports family… I absolutely love seeing my boys, all three of them, play football and basketball!
We’ve had some really good years, and some really crappy years too! But through it all, I wouldn't change a moment, because everything we've gone through in our marriage and as a family, was 100% worth it! I have learned the hard way to embrace the 'yucky' stuff, because on the other side, is where you’ll truly find the miracles and beauty in this thing we call life.
Personally, I have experienced some moments that tested my faith, my mind, my heart and my relationships. Most, are the result of unexplained health crisis that literally turned my life, and the lives of my loved ones, upside down! I am currently living with Celiac Disease, Hypothyroidism, and adult onset Asthma. I was also diagnosed with Dyslexia at the age of 35 and most recently, ADHD and Anxiety. Let me tell you, every one of these pieces of ‘Karla’ are an important part of my story, and though I wouldn't have chosen any of them, I am learning to embrace each one as a vital component of helping me find me!
I’m obsessed with Yoga and its transformative power to encourage the body, mind and soul to restore. Currently, I’m working on my RYT 200 Hatha Certification through Aura Wellness Center and loving every minute of it! I love to learn and challenge my thinking – I truly find value in challenging my worldview - curiously seeking new information that encourages me to evolve into a better person.
Professionally, I am a dancer, creator, educator, choreographer, mentor and dreamer. I have dedicated my life and profession to expressing spirituality and human experiences through the art of dance. I’ve been teaching and mentoring young minds and artists, in some capacity, for over 20 years. Currently, I’m working with emerging artists in the Gonzaga University Dance Department as an Adjunct Instructor where I teach Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Anatomy and Kinesiology and Dance Conditioning. I LOVE THE HUMAN BODY! I love how when the body, mind, and soul achieve a place of peace and unity, there is a sense of harmony within that is incomparable.
In 2014, I founded, and I am currently the Executive Director of the nonprofit organization, Partners Through Art. Our artists primary goal is to leverage the power of theatre, dance and visual art in partnership with other non-profits or community organizations, to expand their individual success and advance the collective goal of positive social change. I started this nonprofit because I saw a need for artists to have a way to connect and serve the community, and we are still going strong!
I am constantly discovering innovative avenues to help and inspire others to find hope and a voice through artistic expression. My hope, is we all can find a way to leave this world a better more loving place, and I think that starts with each of us doing our best to be happy, healthy and whole, so we can then better serve ourselves and the people around us.
My utmost desire is to help people find peace and purpose. Whether it's within the body, mind, soul, or all three! I believe every single person has the capacity and potential to live a life of purpose, happiness and freedom!
